Vocabulary Building Strategies for the GRE, SAT, ASVAB, GED, and MAT



Having a high level English vocabulary is necessary to succeed on certain standardized tests. The SAT (for undergraduate admissions) and the GRE (for graduate admissions) have the most infamous vocabulary sections. The GED Reading and Writing tests also demand that you possess a strong English vocabulary. The ASVAB for military enlistment has an English portion that tests your knowledge of definitions and word usage. And the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a test of word analogies that requires a very high level vocabulary. To improve your word knowledge, try some of these resources.

Vocabulary Books and Flash Cards
Try to learn at least 5 new words each day, and record your progress in a notebook, on your computer, or with a set of flash cards.
